Apple Revamps Siri with Help from Google's Gemini Models

Apple has finally released its revamped Siri, built on Google's Gemini models, after years of delays that cost people their jobs. The assistant is now available as a beta in English only and will support other languages like French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish next month.

The new Siri can understand personal context from messages, emails, and photos, read screen content, and pull information from the web. It can also draft emails or edit and share photos through system-wide app actions. For example, searching for a family recipe mentioned in Messages will have Siri move the ingredients into the Reminders app.

The assistant works with third-party apps like WhatsApp and Audible, and soon Outlook, Notability, and Tripsy. Apple is also adding new voices and a reworked dictation feature that runs on the on-device model AFM Core Advanced.

Apple Intelligence spreads across more apps, including Photos, which gets tools like Spatial Reframing, Extend, and a reworked Clean Up. Image Playground creates photorealistic images through Private Cloud Compute and supports the SynthID standard for labeling AI images.
