Apple Seeks Settlement Talks with Epic Games Amid Ongoing Dispute

Epic Games' ongoing battle against Apple has taken another turn as the iPhone maker filed a motion seeking a court-ordered settlement conference. The move comes after Apple proposed a commission framework that would allow it to collect up to 15% on transactions processed through alternative payment systems, which Epic immediately rejected. According to the filing, Apple's attorneys had discussed the proposed settlement conference with Epic's legal team on August 11.

The case stems from Epic's 2020 lawsuit challenging Apple's control over iOS in-app payments and restrictions on directing users to external payment options. A federal court ruling last year required Apple to allow developers to direct customers to alternative payment systems, but the company had previously sought to impose a 27% commission on such purchases.

The Supreme Court recently rejected Apple's request to halt the lower-court proceedings while it considers the company's challenge to the contempt finding. This decision has added pressure to the ongoing dispute, with Apple now seeking a settlement conference to resolve the remaining issues.
