Apple Skips Trump's AI Lunch, Raises Questions About Its Strategy
The recent White House lunch for AI industry leaders hosted by US President Donald Trump was a notable affair, with top tech CEOs from NVIDIA, Meta, Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI in attendance. However, Apple's absence raised questions about its AI strategy.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei were among the notable attendees. OpenAI president Greg Brockman also made an appearance, as did Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
Apple's absence from the meeting stands out because it was intended to bring together companies shaping the US AI ecosystem. According to rumors, Apple was not invited because it is seen as lagging in AI research and development.
However, Altimeter Capital CEO Brad Gerstner downplayed Apple's absence, calling it a 'nothing burger' and saying that Cook was at the White House attending Trump's state dinner with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
