Apple Stock Tumbles on Acquisition News Amid AI Push
Apple's stock price dipped by about 1% following news from the European Commission that the tech giant acquired PlasmaSolve, a materials science firm specializing in plasma simulation software. This acquisition is part of Apple's efforts to strengthen its technology capabilities, particularly in artificial intelligence and chip technology.
The deal adds to a series of smaller acquisitions completed by Apple this year. In February, Apple purchased Rabbit 3 Times, the developer behind the Play app, and SigScalr in March. More recently, it acquired MotionVFX, a plugin maker for Final Cut Pro.
Apple's interest in AI technology is not new, with earlier reports suggesting that the company paid around $2 billion to acquire Israeli AI startup Q.ai. The firm develops technology for interpreting speech from facial movements, highlighting Apple's focus on integrating AI capabilities into its products.
