Apple's Overhauled Health App Leaves Google Behind
The Apple Health app has undergone a major overhaul, and it's winning over long-time Google Health user Brady Snyder. The new app requires new hardware, specifically an iPhone capable of running Apple Intelligence, such as the iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
Snyder installed the iOS 27.2 developer beta on his iPhone Air and paired it with his Apple Watch Ultra 3 to try out the new app. He was immediately impressed by the Insights tab, which now includes Activity Ring data front and center. The Longevity tab estimates health age using fitness data from the Apple Watch.
The new app also features personalized tests that use vision-based AI models to analyze health metrics. Snyder was able to take a VO2 max test, which measures oxygen intake during extreme exercise, but noted that he'll need more data to get an accurate health age estimate.
One feature that's absent in the current Apple Health app is 'Readiness,' which estimates body readiness for workouts using a zero-to-10 scale. However, Snyder's Apple Watch Ultra 3 doesn't support this feature, and it requires the latest Apple Watch Series 12 or Ultra 4.
