Apple's Quiet AI Bet Brings Market Value Closer to $5 Trillion
Apple's market value has been inching closer to $5 trillion, reaching a new record high of nearly $4.96 trillion after closing at $339.75 on Tuesday. The milestone is significant, as it would make Apple one of the first companies in history to surpass this valuation. However, unlike its competitors like Nvidia and others who are investing heavily in data centers and AI infrastructure, Apple has chosen a different approach.
The company's strategy focuses on custom silicon, on-device processing, and selective cloud infrastructure, which is proving to be a defensive measure for investors concerned about AI spending. Apple's new high-end Mac Mini and Mac Studio models extend this strategy into the enterprise market, with configurations costing nearly $20,000 aimed at developers and corporate buyers.
The challenge lies in distribution, as Macs hold only 4.6% of the enterprise desktop market compared to Windows' 91%. Apple is also entering the foldable phone market with its $1,999 iPhone Duo, which combines a 7.6-inch inner display with a 5.4-inch outer screen.
