Aptoide Added to Google Play Store, but Users Warned of Potential Risks
Aptoide is an alternative app store that has been around for nearly 20 years. In a recent development, Google added Aptoide Games to the US version of the Google Play Store as part of its compliance with an antitrust case against Epic Games.
However, users who sideload the official Aptoide app will find it offers a vast array of software, including games and apps. The app even has categories, but they are limited compared to the website version, where you can find all sorts of non-game apps.
The Aptoide Games app on Google Play Store is very limited in what you can currently install, with only two categories available. While both apps offer an update section, any app installed via the Google Play Store can be updated in the Aptoide app, but not in the Aptoide Games app.
A major concern for users is the safety of installing apps from Aptoide. The official Aptoide app used to have a feature where any app scanned for malicious code displayed a green check mark indicating it was safe, but that feature is no longer available on the app version.
