Archer Aviation Acquires Boeing Subsidiaries in Deal Worth Over $200M
Arcer Aviation Inc., the US-based electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft manufacturer, has announced its acquisition of Boeing's Wisk Aero, SkyGrid, and Insitu subsidiaries. The deal combines Archer's purpose-built AI foundation model for aerospace and defense with the pioneering autonomy and airspace intelligence software developed by Wisk, SkyGrid, and Insitu.
Wisk Aero is a leading developer of eVTOL aircraft, having designed and flown six generations of electric aircraft, amassing over 1,700 flight tests. Its team has developed unmatched autonomy capabilities powered by a next-gen flight-control computer, sensor suite, and radar system designed for certification in both civil and potential defense markets.
SkyGrid has built a leading ground-based air traffic management solution that enables safe integration, scalable automation, and coordinated traffic management necessary for commercialization across the aviation ecosystem. Insitu is a pioneer in designing, developing, and manufacturing unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) used in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.
The acquisition positions Archer to deliver an end-to-end physical AI platform across commercial aerospace, defense, and air traffic management that can lead the next generation of aviation. The deal also allows Boeing to retain access to Wisk's core autonomous flight technology for its current and next-generation commercial and defense aircraft.
