AWS Growth Lifts Amazon Stock, But Financial Stakes Remain High
Amazon's stock price has recovered above $250 after falling from its August record near $287. The rebound is fragile, however, due to accelerating AWS investment, regulatory pressure, and rising operating costs.
The company's revenue increased 37% year over year to $42.2 billion in the latest quarter, exceeding market expectations. However, this growth comes with significant financial hurdles as Amazon must continue investing heavily in computing capacity while ensuring AWS generates sufficient operating income and cash flow.
AWS has signed a multiyear chip-design licensing agreement with Synopsys worth more than $1 billion, giving Amazon access to intellectual property and engineering tools for its proprietary Trainium AI accelerators and Graviton processors.
