AWS Struggles to Restore Access After Iranian War Damage

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is still struggling to restore access to its cloud-computing facilities in Bahrain and parts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after they were damaged during a recent conflict with Iran.

The damage, which occurred in March following US and Israeli attacks on Iran, was more extensive than initially thought, affecting multiple availability zones in Bahrain and one zone in the UAE's mec1-az2 region.

AWS said it has been working to help customers reestablish operations in other regions, using backups where available or implementing alternative solutions to mitigate the impact of inaccessible data.

In the UAE, AWS is continuing to work on recovering resources across the wider region and in the two affected zones, with plans to provide an update on restoration of services in the coming months.
