Backpack Angels Provide Hygiene Products to At-Risk Children

For over 16 years, the Backpack Angels have been providing hygiene products to at-risk children in North Port. Founded by a group of San Pedro Catholic Church parishioners, the nonprofit has grown significantly since its inception, with 100 volunteers donating around 10,000 bags per year.

The organization's president, Naomi Jodoin, noted that the population of North Port continues to grow, resulting in an increased demand for hygiene products. To meet this need, the Backpack Angels rely on grants, donations from companies like Home Depot, and monetary contributions from the community.

Each month, volunteers pack around $5,000 worth of product into bags, which are then delivered to local schools. The organization's vice president, Judy Scheil, emphasized that 'no one thinks of hygiene products,' highlighting the importance of their work in keeping children clean, confident, and cared for.
