Barclays Maintains $420 Price Target for JPMorgan Chase
Barclays has maintained its Overweight rating and $420 price target for JPMorgan Chase & Co., reflecting strong expectations for the bank's third-quarter 2026 performance. The firm anticipates operating earnings per share of $6.02, surpassing consensus estimates of $5.90, driven by robust trading and investment banking activity. Net interest income is projected to rise modestly, supported by margin expansion, balance sheet growth, and an additional day in the quarter. Trading activity and investment banking fees are expected to grow in the mid-to-high teens year-over-year, despite seasonal challenges.
Barclays forecasts stable asset quality trends with continued modest share repurchases. The firm also sees upside to JPMorgan’s 2026 net interest income forecast, excluding markets, at $96.5 billion, and anticipates an initial 2027 forecast of approximately $103 billion. The bank’s return on tangible common equity is currently at 18% over the last twelve months, with Barclays believing a high-teens return remains achievable in the near term.
JPMorgan has been involved in several strategic developments recently. The bank is arranging over £1 billion in financing for Drax Group’s acquisition of Bluefield Solar Income Fund and plans to expand its operations in India’s GIFT City. Leadership changes include Francesco Lavatelli becoming the senior country officer for Japan and CEO of JPMorgan Securities Japan, effective December 1. Additionally, JPMorgan has strengthened its natural resources investment banking team and increased its prime lending rate to 7% following a Federal Reserve interest rate hike.
