Berkshire Hathaway Doubles Down on Tech Giants

Berkshire Hathaway's latest investment moves have sent signals about the company's new CEO Greg Abel's approach to tech stocks. Under his leadership, Berkshire has maintained its top holdings in Alphabet and Apple, signaling a shift towards comfort with tech investments.

Abel's investing style is built on the values of discipline and long-term thinking, which were emphasized by former CEO Warren Buffett. However, unlike Buffett, Abel seems more open to investing in tech stocks, particularly those related to artificial intelligence (AI).

The company's top holding, Apple, has seen a significant reduction in Berkshire's stake under Abel, who has instead chosen to maintain the investment and even add to it. Alphabet, another top holding, saw an increase in Berkshire's stake in the first quarter of 2026, with the company participating in Alphabet's $80 billion equity offering in June.

Berkshire's investments in both companies reflect Abel's confidence in their long-term growth potential, particularly in AI-related areas. Apple's approach to AI is centered around its consumer devices and apps, which provide a gateway to AI services without requiring massive infrastructure investments. Alphabet, on the other hand, is building out its AI data center infrastructure through custom chips and cloud computing.

The value philosophy that guides Berkshire's investment decisions has not changed under Abel's leadership. The company remains focused on finding undervalued companies with strong long-term potential, rather than chasing speculative investments.
