Biman Appoints New Leaders Amid Plans for Leasing and Fleet Modernization
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has appointed two new top executives to lead the national flag carrier. Kaizer Sohail Ahmed is now the Managing Director (MD) and CEO, while Syed Moin Uddin Ahmed takes on the role of Deputy Managing Director (DMD). Both appointments are for a one-year contractual basis, contingent upon relinquishing any other professional or business ties with government, semi-government, or private organizations.
Kaizer Sohail Ahmed brings over two decades of experience in the energy sector, having spent nearly 28 years at Chevron. He holds an MBA from the University of Dhaka and a Bachelor's degree in Aeronautics from the Bangladesh Air Force Academy. Syed Moin Uddin Ahmed, on the other hand, has over 22 years of experience in the aviation industry and holds a postgraduate degree in Industrial Psychology and Advanced Statistics from the same university.
Biman is set to lease aircraft from Airbus until the delivery of new Boeing planes. The government has granted approval for Biman to acquire 14 Boeing aircraft, estimated at around USD 3.7 billion at list prices. However, deliveries are expected to take up to five years, prompting authorities to explore leasing options to avoid capacity constraints.
