Boeing Warned on 737 MAX Software Flaw Amid Ongoing Safety Scrutiny
Boeing has identified a previously undisclosed software flaw in its 737 MAX aircraft that could cause an automated navigation feature to fail during landing. The issue stems from a cockpit software update and can surface when flight crews change their planned flight path after a missed approach.
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is aware of the potential issue and is working closely with Boeing and airlines to address it. The regulator has convened a Corrective Action Review Board, which will take immediate action if a safety concern is identified.
Boeing notified all 737 operators last month about the software issue, stating that pilots may lose access to automated flight guidance in a specific landing scenario. The company added that its engineers are working on a software update to permanently address the issue.
