Boeing 787-9 Dominates Widebody Deliveries in 2026

The Boeing 787-9 has emerged as the leading widebody aircraft in terms of deliveries for 2026, according to data from industry analytics firm Cirium. The company's mid-year report shows that the 787-9 has accounted for 35 deliveries in the widebody sector.

This surge in production and delivery is significant because it allows airlines and lessors to retire older aircraft types, which are often less fuel-efficient. As a result, carriers can trim or reconfigure their long-haul flying routes and cabin configurations.

According to IBA, a total of 1,800 aircraft deliveries are expected in 2026, with the Boeing 787-9 playing a major role in this trend.

The increased availability of the 787-9 has also led to broader network decisions among carriers. As fleets refresh and retire older planes, airlines are reconfiguring their routes and cabin configurations to take advantage of the newer aircraft's capabilities.
