Boeing 787 Delivery Milestone Puts Dreamliner on Track to Become Most Delivered Widebody Aircraft

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has reached another milestone in its delivery history. In August 2026, Boeing surpassed the 1,300 delivery mark for this widebody aircraft. This week's Flight Friday takes a closer look at the competing engines powering these planes.

The Rolls-Royce Trent-powered 787 fleet is significantly larger than the GE Aerospace GenX-powered fleet, with almost 430 deliveries and over 420 in service. These planes are averaging around 50-55 flight cycles per month, although this number reached a peak of 60 during the Northern Hemisphere summer of 2023.

The GenX-powered fleet, on the other hand, has delivered nearly 875 aircraft and is operating at an average monthly cycle rate of 55-60. However, these planes are flying slightly shorter routes, with an average stage length of around 7 hours per flight.
