Boeing Flags Software Glitch in 737 MAX Aircraft

Boeing has identified a previously undisclosed software glitch in its 737 MAX aircraft that could cause an automated navigation feature to fail during landing. According to The Wall Street Journal, the issue emerged from a cockpit software update and can occur when flight crews alter their planned flight path after a missed approach.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated it was aware of the potential issue in the software update for the flight computers on certain 737 MAX airplanes and was working closely with Boeing and the airlines. The FAA will convene a Corrective Action Review Board to assess the situation and take immediate action if a safety concern is identified.

Boeing has informed all 737 operators about the software issue under which pilots may not have access to automated flight guidance during a specific landing scenario. The company's engineers are working on a software update to permanently address the issue, but it was not clear how many aircraft were operating with the flawed software.
