Boeing lands $14.7 billion missile seeker contract
Boeing has secured a $14.7 billion contract from Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) to manufacture PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) seekers. The agreement, announced in a press release, establishes a seven-year framework aimed at tripling the production of these critical components, which help Patriot interceptors detect and track various threats, including aircraft, hypersonic missiles, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles.
The contract aligns with the U.S. Department of War’s Acquisition Transformation Strategy and Arsenal of Freedom initiative. Boeing began ramping up production and hiring earlier this year following the initial framework agreement. Steve Parker, president and CEO of Boeing Defense, Space & Security, emphasized the company's early investment in quality and execution, stating, "Early investment and a relentless focus on quality and execution have positioned us to now deliver seekers at unprecedented levels in the near-term, and we’re committed to building on that momentum."
The deal is expected to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs in Huntsville, Alabama. Boeing has already made significant capital investments to expand its PAC-3 seeker factory, strengthen supplier relationships, modernize facilities, and improve production processes.
The PAC-3 MSE seekers are integral parts of the PAC-3 MSE interceptors used in Patriot missile defense systems, which are deployed by U.S. and allied forces.
