Boeing Lands Big Orders from Vietnam Amid Trade Talks
Boeing's turnaround story has gained significant momentum following two major aircraft deals tied to U.S.-Vietnam trade talks. Sun PhuQuoc Airways, a new Vietnam-based carrier, has ordered up to 40 787 Dreamliner jets from Boeing in a $22.5 billion deal. This is part of the airline's strategy to serve as the backbone of its widebody fleet.
Separately, Vietnam Airlines finalized its first Boeing single-aisle order for 50 737 MAX airplanes in an $8.1 billion agreement. The aircraft will have a range of up to 3,500 nautical miles and can carry up to 200 passengers.
The orders come amid ongoing trade discussions between the U.S. and Vietnam following President Donald Trump's tariffs on trading partners worldwide. Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg is working to steer a turnaround at the company, and these new deals are a significant boost to its order book.
