The US Air Force has cleared the Boeing MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopter for its primary mission of guarding US nuclear missile fields. The declaration marks the initial operational capability of the aircraft, which was procured to replace the aging UH-1N Huey.

The Grey Wolf is a militarized derivative of the Leonardo AW139 commercial medium-lift helicopter, built by Boeing as prime contractor. It boasts improved speed, range, and defensive systems compared to its predecessor.

'Securing these missiles demands our best efforts and the MH-139 will significantly improve our capabilities,' said General Stephen L. Davis, commander of AFGSC.
