Boeing is pushing its suppliers to adopt automation and modern manufacturing techniques in order to increase production rates.

In an industry event, Chief Technology Officer Lane Ballard emphasized the need for the aerospace sector to transition from traditional manual processes to higher levels of automation and repeatability.

Ballard stated that Boeing's suppliers 'need to understand we've got to move away from craftsman thinking' in order to meet the company's production demands.

The push for automation is part of Boeing's efforts to increase production rates, including the 737 Max, which has been affected by supply chain bottlenecks and large order backlogs.
