Boeing Scores Big with 111 Plane Order, But Can It Deliver?
Boeing's recent order of 111 aircraft from Turkish Airlines and Biman Bangladesh Airlines has been hailed as a significant boost for the company. The deal, worth tens of billions of dollars, includes options for another 50 planes, which will be delivered in the future.
The agreement is seen as a testament to Boeing's ability to recover from past setbacks, including the grounding of its 737 MAX aircraft after two fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019. The company has faced criticism over design and certification issues, as well as manufacturing and quality control problems.
Despite these challenges, Boeing delivered 600 commercial aircraft in 2025, its highest annual total since 2018. However, the company's financial performance remains a concern, with an $11.8 billion net loss in 2024 and negative free cash flow of $14.3 billion.
The recent order is seen as a positive step towards rebuilding Boeing's reputation and restoring customer confidence. The company's chief executive, Kelly Ortberg, has stated that it is working to stabilize its production rate and improve quality control measures.
