Boeing Secures US Navy Sixth-Generation Fighter Contract

The US Navy has awarded Boeing a multi-billion-dollar contract to design and deliver its sixth-generation F/A-XX fighter, replacing the F/A-18 Super Hornets.

The aircraft will feature an open mission systems architecture and advanced mission systems, with technical specifications and development milestones remaining classified.

This is Boeing's second sixth-generation fighter programme, following its selection by the US Air Force in 2025 to develop the F-47.

Boeing plans to pursue both programmes concurrently, utilising new facilities, technology, and personnel in St Louis, where construction continues on a secure manufacturing facility that will support multiple future aircraft.
