Boeing Seeks Finalization of Existing Deal Amid Fading Hopes for New China Order
Hopes for a major new order from China at this week's US-China summit have faded, according to sources briefed on the negotiations.
Instead of securing additional commitments for hundreds of aircraft, Boeing is working to finalize an existing agreement announced in May for 200 planes.
The deal marked a potential reopening of the Chinese market to Boeing after years of limited orders, and followed an earlier summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Expectations had grown that Thursday's summit could produce another significant aircraft order, but Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg recently downplayed this possibility, focusing on issues including their trade relationship, artificial intelligence safeguards, Taiwan, soybeans, and rare earth minerals.
