Boeing Slammed with Maximum Fine for Hundreds of Safety Violations

Boeing paid $3.1 million to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in January 2026 as part of a settlement for hundreds of manufacturing quality violations.

The FAA had proposed a maximum civil penalty of $3,139,319 in September 2025, which it said was its maximum available authority under federal law.

Inspectors found that Boeing's 737 factory in Renton, Washington, and the Wichita, Kansas, fuselage factory operated by Spirit AeroSystems had hundreds of quality-system violations between September 2023 and February 2024.

The FAA also found that a Boeing employee pressured a safety representative to sign off on a 737 MAX so it could meet its delivery schedule, despite the aircraft not meeting regulatory standards.

The pressure on the safety representative was part of a broader pattern of conduct linked to the January 2024 Alaska Airlines emergency, where a door plug separated from the Boeing 737 MAX 9 shortly after departure from Portland, causing rapid depressurization and leaving a large opening in the side of the aircraft.
