Boeing Software Glitch Identified in 737 MAX Jets
Boeing has identified a software issue in some of its 737 MAX aircraft that can cause problems with automated flight guidance after a missed landing. The glitch occurs when pilots execute a go-around and then change the programmed path for a subsequent approach, potentially leaving the plane in a simpler pitch mode.
The manufacturer has assured operators that the situation is not an immediate safety concern, but has advised crews to reset the system after a missed approach as an interim step. A permanent software update is being developed to address the issue.
Boeing informed all 737 MAX operators last month about the issue and has been working with airlines and regulatory bodies to address it. The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is reviewing a potential safety concern related to the software update for flight computers on certain 737 MAX airplanes.
