Boeing Software Glitch Raises Safety Concerns for 737 MAX Jets

A Boeing software glitch in some 737 MAX jets could cause issues during landings, sparking safety concerns. The issue was discovered by one of the aircraft's operators in November 2024 but did not immediately trigger a safety review.

The glitch affects the flight management computer and can disengage the vertical navigation system (VNAV) during an aborted landing, or 'go-around', forcing pilots to fly manually without autopilot.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the issue and has confirmed it is aware of a potential problem in the software update for certain Boeing 737 MAX airplanes. The agency is working closely with Boeing and airlines on the matter.
