Boeing Starts JDAM Long Range Production with $75 Million Contract
Boeing has started initial production of its JDAM Long Range weapon after being awarded a $75 million contract by the U.S. Air Force.
The JDAM Long Range can travel over 300 nautical miles while carrying a 500-pound-class payload and is designed for conventional land strikes, naval strikes, and maritime aerial-mining missions.
Boeing invested nearly $100 million internally in the project before receiving the contract, which will allow it to produce BSU-111/B Payload Delivery Units for the U.S. Navy.
The system combines an existing JDAM guidance tail kit with a wing kit and compact turbojet engine, allowing for rapid integration with aircraft already capable of carrying conventional JDAM weapons.
