Boeing Trails Airbus in August Deliveries as Orders Slow
Boeing's commercial aircraft deliveries and orders slowed down in August, allowing Airbus to regain its lead. The US planemaker delivered 51 jets during the month, including 41 Boeing 737 Max planes, but saw a significant drop in new orders to just 15. In contrast, Airbus shipped out 57 aircraft to 31 customers and secured 67 gross orders.
The difference in delivery rates has a direct impact on cash flow for both companies. Commercial aircraft typically generate the largest payment when handed over to the customer, making deliveries a critical metric in the industry. Boeing's slower pace of deliveries means it may experience delayed cash receipts and working capital release into future quarters.
Airbus' stronger order intake provides more forward visibility, as it replenishes its backlog and secures future assembly slots at current pricing. This gives Airbus an edge over Boeing, which is more dependent on operational execution to meet its free-cash-flow trajectory.
