Boeing vs Airbus: Biman Bangladesh Seeks Fleet Upgrade Amid Intense Competition

Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the state-owned flag carrier of Bangladesh, is in the midst of upgrading its fleet with both Boeing and Airbus vying for contracts. The airline has already formalized an agreement with Boeing to purchase 14 aircraft at a cost of $3.7 billion. These planes are expected to be delivered between 2031 and 2035.

Airline officials indicate that Biman is likely to procure an additional 11 aircraft from Boeing, bringing the total expected addition to 25 new planes by 2040. Currently, Biman operates a fleet of 19 aircraft, with 14 of them being Boeing models.

Despite securing the initial agreement, Airbus remains actively engaged in discussions to sell at least ten aircraft to the airline. French Ambassador to Dhaka Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet emphasized that negotiations between European negotiators and Bangladeshi authorities take time but are ongoing.
