Boeing vs. SpaceX: Which Aerospace Giant Offers Better Value?
Boeing and Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) are two prominent players in the aerospace industry, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Boeing has made significant strides in recovering from operational challenges, achieving a 35% revenue growth and a net income of $2.2 billion in FY 2025.
The company's reliance on borrowed funds is a concern, with a debt-to-equity ratio of 10x. In contrast, SpaceX continues to expand its Starlink broadband service, serving over 10.3 million subscribers across more than 160 markets by early 2026. However, the company's high costs and heavy capital spending have resulted in negative free cash flow.
While Boeing faces risks related to development schedules and quality control issues, SpaceX operates in a highly competitive industry with intense competition from established players like Lockheed Martin Corp and Northrop Grumman Corp. The valuation of both companies is also a concern, with SpaceX commanding a premium due to its growth potential and satellite internet expansion.
Analysts project $39 billion in sales for fiscal 2026 for SpaceX, with profitability expected in 2027. In contrast, Boeing's net income is forecasted to fall dramatically to around $85 million this year, resulting in a high forward P/E ratio.
