Boeing Wins $20 Billion Contract for Next-Generation Fighter Aircraft
The US Navy has awarded Boeing a contract to produce its next-generation fighter aircraft, the F/A-XX. The Sixth-Generation F/A-XX Strike Fighter contract is valued at more than $20 billion for the full-scale development phase.
The new multirole fighter will replace the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornets and EA-18G Growlers in service with the US Navy. According to Michael P Duffey, Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment, the F/A-XX is a critical pillar in maintaining peace through strength.
The F/A-XX will provide advanced carrier-based power projection that extends the range of US Navy carriers. It will also be interoperable with manned and unmanned platforms such as Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) and increase the capability of every CCA it teams with.
