Boeing Wins F/A-XX Contract Worth Over $20 Billion
After years of uncertainty and a self-imposed August deadline, the U.S. Navy has finally awarded Boeing the F/A-XX next-generation carrier-based fighter contract. The deal is worth approximately $20 billion and covers the full-scale development phase, including the procurement of multiple test aircraft for ground, airworthiness, systems, and weapons integration testing.
The win comes as no surprise, given that Boeing's design bears a striking resemblance to its F-47 proposal for the U.S. Air Force, which it won in March 2025. The company will be able to leverage this existing work, as well as its relevant production experience and supply chains.
The Navy has long emphasized the need for F/A-XX, citing its importance in staying ahead of global competitors like China and Russia, as well as smaller adversaries such as Iran. CNO Adm. Daryl Caudle previously stated that the service needs a stealth aircraft capable of flying missions into hostile territory without being detected.
