Boeing Wins Navy Contract for Sixth-Generation Fighter
The US Navy has awarded Boeing a multi-billion-dollar contract to design and build its sixth-generation fighter, the F/A-XX. The aircraft is intended to replace the service's fleet of F/A-18 Super Hornets.
According to Boeing, the programme will incorporate an open mission systems architecture and advanced mission systems, extending the Navy's operational reach and capacity.
The contract marks a significant win for Boeing, which has already been selected by the US Air Force to develop its sixth-generation fighter, the F-47. The company will now pursue both programmes in parallel.
Steve Parker, president and chief executive of Boeing Defense, Space & Security, stated that the company had planned and invested for concurrent development, including new facilities, technology, and personnel.
