Boeing Wins Texas Court Ruling Against Southwest Pilots' 737 MAX Claims
A Texas Business Court judge has ruled in favor of Boeing Co., dismissing claims from Southwest Airlines pilots that the manufacturer induced them into a collective bargaining agreement with misrepresentations about the 737 MAX airliner.
The ruling came after the pilots' labor union failed for a second time to show their damages were caused by acts or omissions from Boeing, according to Judge Andrea Bouressa's order on Monday. The judge noted that the pilots' amended petition attributed damages for lost wages to the grounding of the 737 MAX, but made no link to Boeing's behavior in the contract negotiations.
The case dates back to 2026, when Southwest Airlines pilots claimed that Boeing had misrepresented the safety and performance of the 737 MAX during contract negotiations. The pilots sought compensation for lost wages due to the plane's grounding after two fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019.
