Boeing has received regulatory approval for its new 737-7 airplane from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The 737-7 is a smaller version of the 737 MAX family, with seating capacity for 135 to 160 passengers in a two-class configuration. It offers about 10% more range potential than its siblings and reduces fuel use and CO2 emissions by 20% compared to traditional airplanes.

The certification process involved over 1,000 hours of flight and ground testing, as well as extensive system safety analysis and human factors reviews. Boeing also addressed a potential condition discovered during flight testing with an updated engine anti-ice system. The company's team worked closely with the FAA throughout the process to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Boeing and Southwest Airlines, the launch customer for the 737-7, are preparing for delivery of the first aircraft. According to Mike Sinnett, Senior Vice President of Product Strategy, Product Development and Development Programs, Boeing has developed a clearer understanding of the latest regulatory requirements through this certification process.
