Boeing's Culture of Negligence Exposed in New Documentary
The documentary Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing, now on Netflix, is a follow-up to Rory Kennedy's 2022 film Downfall: The Case Against Boeing. The new documentary explores how Boeing, once an American success story, fell into disrepute after the crashes of its 737 MAX passenger jets.
The film centers around John Barnett, a former quality control manager at Boeing who spoke out about safety concerns for over three decades before his departure from the company in 2022. Barnett's reports were repeatedly dismissed or deleted by management, and he was eventually docked pay for his efforts.
Other whistleblowers share similar stories of being silenced or demoted after raising red flags about Boeing's manufacturing practices. One former safety inspector revealed that defective parts were re-used on brand-new planes, while another filmed a worker doing something wrong but was asked to delete the video instead of addressing the issue.
