Boeing's Defense Unit Loses President Amid Ongoing Scrutiny
Boeing's Defense, Space and Security (BDS) unit is facing another challenge as its president and CEO, Ted Colbert, leaves the company. In a letter to employees, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg said that Colbert will be leaving after 15 years of service at The Boeing Company. The move comes as the company continues to deal with financial pressures and scrutiny following several high-profile failures involving its aircraft and supply.
The company has been under intense pressure since January when a door plug blew out of the 737 Max 9 aircraft during an Alaska Airlines flight, prompting a federal investigation. Boeing's Starliner spacecraft also faced delays and rising costs before its first crewed launch to the International Space Station in June.
However, the recent issues with the Starliner have added to the company's woes. The spacecraft was forced to return without its astronauts earlier this month after tests showed there were risks associated with re-entry via its thrusters.
