The U.S. Air Force has declared initial operational capability for the MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopter program, paving the way for full-rate production of the aircraft.

Boeing received an award for the first four full-rate production MH-139As, with a total of 42 helicopters under contract to date. The company has already delivered 27 Grey Wolves to the Air Force.

The MH-139A is based on the Leonardo AW139 and features mission-specific equipment, systems, and armament. Boeing's vice president and general manager for Vertical Lift Programs, Kathleen Jolivette, noted that this milestone validates key readiness levels for Grey Wolf and supports the service's fielding plans to secure vital national assets.

The MH-139A has been shown to be 50 percent faster, longer-ranged, and capable of carrying more security forces responders than the legacy UH-1N.
