Brand Building Fundamentals Remain Unchanged Amid Rapid Changes
Procter & Gamble's Chief Brand Officer Marc Pritchard says that despite rapid technological and media changes, the fundamentals of effective brand building remain unchanged. The core principles include understanding who you are serving, identifying their needs, defining what your brand represents, establishing its benefits, and delivering those through product, packaging, communication, and retail experience.
Pritchard's five-factor approach assesses brand performance across markets using measures like market growth, market share growth, user growth, sales growth, and profit growth. He emphasizes that marketers should demonstrate how their investments translate into commercial outcomes to strengthen the case for sustained brand building.
Pritchard notes that while methods used to deliver those principles have undergone substantial change, from storefronts and word of mouth to digital platforms and e-commerce, artificial intelligence has opened another chapter in marketing. He stresses that marketers must continually adapt their approach without abandoning the principles that make brands relevant to consumers.
