IBM Powers Marist University's AI Research Incubator
IBM and Marist University have launched an Innovation Incubator to support AI research projects across multiple academic disciplines. The incubator, which is an expansion of their existing 50-year partnership, will be powered by an IBM z17 mainframe providing computing power for various research projects.
The three initial projects identified by the incubator include synthetic marketing campaigns operated by AI agent teams to test guardrails in aggressive or unethical tactics. Another project aims to use quantum optimization algorithms to analyze real-time financial data and generate portfolio allocations. A third proposed project explores how AI can improve polling methodologies and survey design.
IBM provided the z17 system to allow students to develop and test applications while gaining experience with enterprise technology designed for large organizations. According to Marist President Kevin Weinman, 'the future of higher education lies at the intersection of academic excellence and meaningful industry engagement.'
