Bristol-Myers Squibb Leaves Merck in the Dust According to Green Zone Power Ratings
The pharmaceutical company Merck (MRK) has seen its stock price rise by about 40% since January, but despite this impressive growth, the Green Zone Power Ratings system has marked it down. This discrepancy is highlighted in a comparison with Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY), another major drug manufacturer.
A closer look at the two companies reveals that while Merck's stock price has increased significantly, its score on the Green Zone Power Ratings system has actually fallen or stalled since December. In contrast, Bristol-Myers' score has continued to rise, reaching a level of 71 in March and surpassing Merck's score of 73.
The key factor driving this difference is value. According to the Green Zone Power Ratings system, Bristol-Myers scores significantly higher on value, with a rating of 66 compared to Merck's 5. This means that even after accounting for one-time charges related to Merck's acquisition of smaller drug companies, Bristol-Myers remains a more attractive investment option.
One crucial consideration is the impending loss of patent protection in 2028, which will affect both companies' flagship products. However, analysts argue that this challenge is already priced into Merck's stock, while Bristol-Myers' newer drugs are better positioned to mitigate the impact.
