Bud Light Fights Back Against NFL's Excessive Celebration Fines
The NFL has long been criticized for imposing hefty fines on players for excessive celebrations. Recently, three players - Kyle Juszczyk of the San Francisco 49ers, Jake Ferguson of the Dallas Cowboys, and Matt Goncalves of the Indianapolis Colts - were fined a total of $37,384 for simulating drinking beer while celebrating touchdowns.
The fine amount was so egregious that Bud Light, the official beer sponsor of the league, decided to give back to fans. They created a 'celly jar' containing $37,384, which is now available as a rebate of $10 on a single purchase of a 12-pack or larger of Bud Light.
Juszczyk and Goncalves plan to appeal their fines, claiming that they were not actually drinking beer. Juszczyk stated, 'I don’t know how else to say it. I wasn't drinking beer in my celebration.' Goncalves' head coach Shane Steichen also defended the action, saying it was an 'ice-cold Coca-Cola.'
