Burger King Takes Bite Out of McDonald's Nugget Dominance
McDonald's and Burger King are two of America's oldest chain restaurants that serve popular chicken nuggets. A recent poll by Statista found that approximately 18% of respondents eat chicken nuggets every week, while about 5% dive into them every single day.
The nuggets from both McDonald's and Burger King feature all-white meat, but the cuts of chicken in McDonald's nuggets are breast meat, rib meat, and tenderloin, which contributes tenderness and moisture. Burger King's nuggets, on the other hand, feature just breast and rib meat.
McDonald's nuggets have a tempura-like crispness, but they dry out more quickly than Burger King's nuggets. The breading in McDonald's nuggets is made with wheat flour, corn flour, starches, and leavening agents, which gives them that signature battered crispiness.
Burger King's revamped nuggets are larger than before, with less-uniform shapes. They pack juiciness and flavor, thanks to the use of chicken fat and broth in their breading. The revised breading also brings an added crunch factor, thanks to ingredients like rice flour.
