Burry Exposes Nvidia Rival Etched's 'Serious Competition' Claims
Nvidia's dominance in the AI trade may be facing a new challenge. Michael Burry, an investor from 'The Big Short,' has pointed out what he calls 'serious competition' for Nvidia. The company in question is Etched, an AI startup that has recently secured a $700 million funding round and boasts a valuation of $21 billion.
Burry highlights several key details about Etched's recruitment and deployment of its AI chips. According to reports, the firm took only 44 days to have its AI chips running inference workloads, a process that typically takes six months or longer. Additionally, around 15% of Etched's total workforce comes from Nvidia.
Burry believes that these details suggest 'serious competition' for Nvidia and potentially a disruption in the AI trade. He notes that an unnamed company insider has informed him that Etched is looking at 10x performance at lower cost per die, which could be a game-changer.
