The California State Teachers Retirement System has significantly increased its stake in American Express Company (NYSE:AXP), according to the latest Form 13F filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

In the second quarter, the institutional investor purchased an additional 268,565,871 shares, bringing its total holdings to 269,392,448. This represents a staggering increase of 32,491.3% from the previous quarter, making California State Teachers Retirement System one of American Express' largest shareholders.

The system's stake in American Express is now worth $91,121,996,000, accounting for 39.89% of the company's outstanding shares.
