Caplyta's Bipolar Mania Study Success Bolsters J&J's Neuroscience Portfolio
Johnson & Johnson's (NYSE:JNJ) $14.6 billion acquisition of Intra-Cellular Therapies has gained another potential growth avenue after Caplyta met the main goal of a late-stage study in bipolar mania.
The study, which evaluated a once-daily 42-milligram dose of Caplyta in adults experiencing manic episodes associated with bipolar I disorder, showed that approximately 46% of patients treated with Caplyta achieved a clinical response compared to approximately 21% of patients receiving placebo.
Caplyta is currently approved for depressive episodes associated with bipolar I and bipolar II disorder, as well as schizophrenia, but the latest study's success brings it one step closer to expanding beyond its existing U.S. indications.
