Career Day Brings Community Together in Washington Township
Small Business Big Heart, a local business organization in Washington Township, hosted its first-ever career day at Washington Lake Park on August 11. The event, which took place just three weeks before the start of the school year, aimed to unite the community and provide kids with an interactive look at various career options.
According to founder Sam DeMaio, the organization's mission is to support the local business community by promoting growth and giving back to those who have helped its members. DeMaio stated that 'our company motto is Get it, and then give it,' reflecting the organization's goal of sharing success with others.
The career day featured over 300 free backpacks distributed to attendees, as well as a fair-like atmosphere with local businesses and vendors showcasing various trades. Representatives from construction firms, healthcare organizations, higher education institutions, and more were on hand to share information about their fields and offer interactive experiences for kids.
Some notable participants included the New Jersey Army National Guard, Washington Township's police department, fire company, and emergency medical services, which brought along their vehicles for kids to tour. Businesses like Pasta Pomodoro offered personal pizza-making stations, while Paisanos Barber Lounge provided free haircuts for children. Home Depot even hosted DIY workshops.
DeMaio emphasized the organization's commitment to supporting the community by bringing local businesses together and giving back in meaningful ways. The team worked tirelessly to secure vendors and professionals that would cater to a wide range of professions, ensuring something for everyone to enjoy.
