Cargo Plane Crash at Miami International Airport: Five Fatalities, Investigation Underway

At Miami International Airport, a devastating cargo plane crash has resulted in five fatalities and five serious injuries. The Boeing 767-300 aircraft, operated by 21 Air, overshot the runway on Sunday shortly before 14:00 local time.

National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) chairwoman Jennifer Homendy described the scene as 'devastating', with debris from the plane and vehicles scattered across the area. The priority remains the recovery of victims' bodies, according to Homendy.

The NTSB has recovered the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder from the aircraft, which will be sent to their headquarters for evaluation. Investigators will examine various factors, including the crew's experience and training, radar data, and weather conditions at the time of landing.

Homendy emphasized that it is still too early to draw conclusions about what caused the crash, stating that they are in the 'fact-finding stage'. The agency will make safety recommendations at the end of its investigation, with Homendy noting that their goal is to prevent future tragedies.
